Each year, HEC will award scholarships from $500.00 to $1500.00 for tuition and school-based fees for qualified BIPOC applicants who attend a Baltimore City or Baltimore County Public School. Awards will be determined on a competitive basis and require the submission of either a class schedule and/or tuition bill from the school by August 2025.

Once the student is identified to receive the scholarship, there is an optional "Life after my IEP/504, now what?" workshop. Workshops may be virtual or in person. We also offer our scholarship recipients an opportunity to participate in our mentorship program. There will also be a brief virtual interview with the finalist.

- Articulate his or her learning difficulties and recognize the need to be a self-advocate
- Is committed to post-high school academic or career training
- Set realistic career goals
- Demonstrate perseverance and is committed to achieving personal goals despite learning challenges
- Has a cumulative 2.0 or higher grade point average (GPA)
- Participates in school and community activities
- Consider participating in a college prep workshop, "Life after my IEP/504, now what?"

Scholarship Requirements
- Completion of form (Google form) or you may download a paper copy of the application and upload when you have completed it.
- Letters of Recommendation: two letters of recommendation. Letters can be from a current or past instructor, community leader, clergy, etc. There is a minimum of two letters and letters cannot be more than a year old. Letters should be specific in recommending the applicant for the scholarship.
- Student essay: The applicant will respond to the following prompt in a well thought-out, typed 350 to 500-word essay. The essay will be a response to the following prompt: Where do you see yourself in five years? How will this scholarship help you achieve your goals?
- Transcript(s): Copies of official high school transcripts
- IEP/504: Submit a copy of the student's current IEP or 504 Plan. The IEP can be a snapshot or full IEP.
